Serbian Patriarch Porfirije will spend the first three days of the Great Lent in the Serbian monastery at the Patriarchate of Pec (Kosovo and Metohija), with abstinence from any food and drink, which is called „Trimirje“ (Trimero).
Patriarch Porfirije arrived yesterday at the monastery. The first thing he did was to bow before the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Pec and the holy relics of his predecessor, the Serbian archbishops and patriarchs.
The Patriarchate of Pec monastery is a Stauropegic monastery and is under the direct jurisdiction of the Patriarch, regardless of the diocese in which it is located.
The Patriarchate of Pec is the historical name for the Serbian Orthodox Church and had its seat in Pec, in the period 1346-1463, 1557-1766.
Also, this monastery is the place of the enthronement of the Serbian patriarchs. By tradition, the new Serbian patriarch Porfirije needs to be enthroned in this monastery but the exact date will be announced by the Assembly of the SOC (in the near future).
