Patriarch Porfirije held a meeting on April 28, 2026, at the Patriarchal residence in Belgrade with Martin Elgersma, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Serbia.
During the meeting, the Patriarch briefed the ambassador on the difficult situation faced by the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, emphasizing the challenges, pressures, and uncertainties affecting the local population. He highlighted the importance of awareness and understanding of these issues within the international community.
Expressing gratitude for the visit, Patriarch Porfirije underlined that the Serbian Orthodox Church remains committed to its evangelical mission. He stressed that, in a world marked by instability and growing tensions, the Church seeks to bear witness to the values of peace, mutual understanding, and brotherly love among peoples and nations.
The Patriarch also reaffirmed the Church’s role as a spiritual guide, promoting dialogue and reconciliation in regions experiencing division and hardship.
