Christmas is celebrated today in Serbia, according to the unrevised Julian calendar and the epidemiological situation in the country forces the faithful to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ differently this year.
Although there are no restrictions on the number of worshipers inside the temples, the authorities, as well as the hierarchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church, have called for all protection measures against COVID-19 to be observed.
Metropolitan Hrizostom of Dabar-Bosnia, Locum Tenens of the patriarchal throne, stressed in his Christmas message that the protection of human life from the pandemic is of the highest value for every Christian.
“Protect your health and life as well as the health of your fellow humans as it has been advised by the Health Authorities. This is not pettiness or lack of faith, on the contrary, it shows that you respect the sanctity of life”, said Metropolitan Hrizostom in his message.
