Staff at Paphos International Airport were instructed to evacuate the airport buildings shortly after 12 noon local time, following information received by the competent authorities regarding a potential security threat.
According to philenews.com, security services obtained intelligence suggesting a possible drone strike targeting both Paphos Airport and the nearby “Andreas Papandreou” air base. As a precautionary measure, the order was given to clear the airport facilities.
Reports indicate that personnel from various airport services and departments have already exited the buildings and are gathered in the airport’s parking areas, awaiting further instructions. At the same time, hundreds of passengers scheduled to depart from Paphos in the coming hours, who had already arrived at the airport, have also been directed to remain in outdoor areas.
The same source reports that authorities are also examining the possibility of evacuating the neighboring communities of Timi and Mandria, which are located near the airport.
According to the information available, the evacuation order was prompted by the detection of a flying object heading toward the airport and the military base in Paphos.
