The newly established school of Byzantine Music of the Metropolis of Belgium has officially begun its operation.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 14, the sanctification rite was performed at the Parish Center of the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Brussels by Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium, in the presence of the Consul of Greece in Belgium, Vasileios Zarbalis.
Metropolitan Athinagoras stressed that in the analogia of the Metropolis we needed psaltae who know the Byzantine music and brighten the sacred services of the Church so that the faithful rejoice in the worship of the Church and be a testimony of the Church to every good person will.
On his part, the head of the school, Deacon Konstantinos Dedes, said: “The task of the School of Byzantine Music is to glorify God, to inspire everyone, to spread the divinely inspired art, to train psaltae with knowledge and spirit, to transmit ecclesiastical ethos and style as its patron saint did in the 4th century.”
He especially referred to the parents who urge their children to learn Byzantine Music, saying that “I congratulate them and assure them that they made the biggest investment they could in their children!”
It is worth noting that the School of Byzantine Music of the Metropolis of Belgium will operate this year according to the curriculum of the Ministry of Culture of Greece and the School’s bracnhes will operate in many parishes of the Metropolis.
