On the afternoon of April 27, Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki warmly welcomed a group of 60 pilgrims from Iași during their visit to Thessaloniki.
The pilgrimage group was led by Metropolitan Theophanes of Moldavia, along with Auxiliary Bishop Nikiforos of Iași. Among the pilgrims were abbots and abbesses from monasteries of the Metropolis of Moldavia and Bukovina, as well as members of the Archdiocese of Iași administration.
The meeting took place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Gregory Palamas in Thessaloniki, where the pilgrims paid their respects to the holy relics of the saint and the sacred icons. The group also chanted Paschal hymns and the apolytikion of Saint Gregory, creating a deeply devotional atmosphere.
Welcoming the visitors, Metropolitan Philotheos expressed his joy at receiving Orthodox brethren from Romania, highlighting the spiritual bond shared between the two Churches. During the visit, he spoke about the life and legacy of Gregory Palamas, emphasizing the profound theological and spiritual contribution he made not only to Thessaloniki but to the entire Orthodox world through his writings.
The visit underscored the enduring ties between the Greek and Romanian Orthodox communities and reaffirmed the shared faith and tradition that continue to unite Orthodox Christians across borders.
