The Romanian Patriarchate has expressed its profound concern and sorrow following the attack that affected the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, one of the most important centers of Orthodox spirituality and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In an official statement, the Patriarchate emphasized that any damage inflicted upon a place of worship and a monument of such religious, historical, and cultural significance represents a loss not only for Orthodoxy but for the entire Christian world and the universal heritage of humanity.
“The Romanian Patriarchate expresses its deep concern and sadness regarding the attack that affected the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, one of the most important centers of Orthodox spirituality and a monument inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List,” the statement noted.
The Patriarchate stressed that attacks on sacred sites and cultural landmarks have consequences that extend far beyond national borders, affecting the shared spiritual and historical legacy of mankind.
Concluding its message, the Romanian Patriarchate called for prayers for peace and the protection of human life and cultural heritage.
“We pray to God for an end to the violence, for the restoration of peace, for the protection of human lives, and for the preservation of the spiritual and cultural heritage that lies in the path of armed conflicts,” the statement said.
