Amid the extremely high temperatures affecting Romania, the Romanian Patriarchate has called on all dioceses to provide assistance to people suffering from the effects of the heatwave.
In a statement, the Patriarchate encouraged parishes and monasteries to distribute water to those in need and to allow people affected by the heat to rest temporarily in shaded and cool areas.
Church institutions that operate medical or social services were also urged to provide assistance within the limits of their available resources.
At the same time, in regions affected by drought and high temperatures, special prayers “in times of drought” will be offered in churches and, where possible, in the fields.
Through these prayers, the faithful will ask God, who “gives rain on the earth and sends water on the fields” (Job 5:10), to provide what is necessary for people and the whole of creation.
The Romanian Patriarchate also appealed to all faithful to show particular care and solidarity with vulnerable people during the period of extreme heat.
