Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, travelled on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, to the island of Imbros, Turkey, to take part in the liturgical events dedicated to the name day of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I and to the 35th anniversary of his election as Ecumenical Patriarch.
The anniversary celebrations are taking place in the Ecumenical Patriarch’s native village on the island of Imbros (Gökçeada) and will culminate on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the Feast of Holy Apostle Bartholomew, with the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy celebrated at the “Dormition of the Mother of God” Cathedral in Panagia (Gökçeada). Concelebrating at the Divine Liturgy will be Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Patriarch Daniel of Romania, and Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s election as Ecumenical Patriarch and 65 years of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s clerical service. The Metropolis of Imbros and Tenedos is also commemorating the 100th anniversary of its establishment and one thousand years of Orthodox witness on the island of Imbros.
