Work for the restoration of minaret began in the Aslan Pasha Mosque in Ioannina, located inside the city’s castle and built in 1618. It is considered one of the most beautiful mosques, which is preserved today in Greece.
With a beautifully decorated interior, the mosque houses the Municipal Ethnographic Museum of Ioannina and the Municipal Museum of Ioannina.
In September 2018, furious northerly winds toppled the minaret atop the mosque, which appeared to be suffering from a weakened structure before the onslaught. Thus the restoration work of the minaret was undertaken by qualified staff, in accordance with the study undertaken, on the basis of the findings of the Antiquities Service of Ioannina and the Municipal Technical Service of Ioannina.
