Following reports of expanding land seizures by Israeli settlers on property belonging to the Greek Orthodox Monastery of Abba Gerasimos of Jordan in Jericho, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was stirred into action.
According to a report in the Kathimerini newspaper, an initial meeting was held on Wednesday to determine how to proceed with the matter.
The monastery, situated north of the Dead Sea in the West Bank, is considered historic and was reportedly founded in the 5th century by Saint Gerasimos himself.
As the article notes, the broader Jericho area has been under increasing pressure from Israeli settlers in recent months, with at least five new outposts established, a frequent precursor to land seizures.
