In accordance with her wishes, Princess Irene, sister of the late King Constantine and Queen Sofia of Spain, was laid to rest in a private family ceremony at the royal estate of Tatoi, beside her parents and brother.
Earlier, a funeral service was held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, officiated by Archbishop Ieronymos. A large crowd gathered to pay their respects.
Visibly moved, Queen Sofia of Spain accompanied her sister to her final resting place and received the Greek flag that had draped the coffin.
Members of the royal family attended the ceremony, including King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain. Political figures and numerous members of the public were also present.
