On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is currently on his summer visit to Imbros. During their conversation, President Zelenskyy personally thanked Patriarch Bartholomew for sending an official delegation to attend Ukraine’s national Independence Day celebrations on August 24. He also expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended to his representatives during their recent visit to the Phanar.
In response, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew conveyed his appreciation for the President’s call and reiterated his wishes for a swift restoration of peace in Ukraine. The Patriarch emphasized the unwavering support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the Ukrainian people amidst the ongoing conflict.
The official delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which includes Metropolitans Hilarion of Winnipeg and Job of Pisidia, along with Patriarchal Deacon Epiphanius Kamyanovich, has already arrived in Ukraine to participate in the upcoming Independence Day events.
