Addressing the gathered crowd in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV referred to the latest developments in the Middle East.
“I am following with deep concern what is happening in the Middle East and in Iran during these dramatic hours. Stability and peace are not built on mutual threats or on weapons, which spread destruction, pain, and death, but only through a reasonable, genuine, and responsible dialogue,” the Pope stated.
“In view of the possibility of a tragedy of enormous proportions, I make an urgent appeal to the parties involved to assume their moral responsibility and stop the spiral of violence before it turns into an irreversible abyss. May diplomacy rediscover its role, and may the good of peoples—who long for peaceful coexistence based on justice—be promoted. Let us continue to pray for peace,” the Pope added.
