“I have no fear of the Trump administration, or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do. I will continue to speak out loudly against war,” the Pope said, responding to a journalist’s question.
“I don’t want to get into a debate with him,” the Pontiff added, speaking aboard the aircraft that departed Rome this morning and is set to land in Algeria and subsequently in three other countries, as part of Pope Prevost’s first visit to the African continent.
According to analysts, Leo’s remarks were a response to a post by U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he described the Pope as “weak” and “terrible for foreign policy,” while also suggesting that he should be grateful for his election by the College of Cardinals.
