Pope Leo met on Monday morning with Metropolitan Polycarpos of Italy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Metropolitan Polycarpos oversees the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Orthodox communities throughout Italy, particularly Greek-speaking parishes, monasteries, clergy, and pastoral life, and serves as a key public representative of the Patriarchate in the country.
The meeting took place in a spirit of mutual respect and open dialogue, reaffirming the importance of communication and cooperation between the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox Churches. Both sides underlined their shared commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, and a common witness to Christian values in the contemporary world.
