The 16 new saints canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church as part of the centennial celebrations of the Patriarchate will now also be officially included in the liturgical calendar of the Polish Orthodox Church.
The decision was approved during the most recent working session of the Holy Synod of the Polish Orthodox Church, held on March 18 in Warsaw.
During the same meeting, the Polish Church also canonized a group of martyrs who were killed in the Katyń Massacre, further emphasizing its dedication to honoring the memory of faithful who suffered for their beliefs.
The Polish Orthodox Church is among the first local Orthodox Churches to positively respond to the Romanian Patriarchate’s request to recognize the newly canonized Romanian saints.
This gesture follows a similar action in 2017, when the Polish Church incorporated into its calendar over forty Romanian saints canonized since 1950.
The official canonization of the new Romanian saints took place on February 4, 2025, marking the 100th anniversary of the elevation of the Romanian Church to the rank of Patriarchate.
