The commemoration of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist was celebrated today with splendor at the historic Church of St. Ioannis of Madytos in Nea Philadelphia.
On the day of the feast, Thursday, August 29, 2019, Bishop Gabriel of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia officiated the Orthros and then held the Archieratic Divine Service with the participation of the clergy of the Holy Metropolis, local authorities, representatives of cultural associations as well as a crowd of faithful.
In his speech, the Metropolitan referred to the ascetic life of St. John the Baptist, the last and greatest Prophet of the Old Testament, but also to the importance of his role in the coming and redemptive work of our Lord Jesus Christ.
