The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, during its session held on January 8, elected a new bishop.
Archimandrite Bartholomew Iatridis, a cleric of the Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia, was elected Bishop of Elaia.
The newly elected Bishop will serve as an auxiliary to Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden, contributing to the pastoral and missionary work of the local Church in Scandinavia.
Short Biography of the New Bishop
Archimandrite Bartholomew Iatridis has previously served in the Metropolises of Peristeri, Trikki and Stagoi, and as Protosyncellus to the then Metropolitan Alexios of France, Maroneia and Komotini, from where he was seconded to Sweden.
He is a graduate of the Faculty of Theology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a PhD from the Department of International Studies at the Law School of Democritus University of Thrace. He also pursued postgraduate studies at the Sorbonne University and holds a diploma in Byzantine Music.
In addition to Greek, Bishop-elect Bartholomew speaks French, Italian, English, German, Swedish, and Turkish.
