On Ascension Day, Thursday 29 May, the women of the Greek Community in the Holy Archdiocesan District of Perth hosted the annual fundraising event Biggest Morning Tea, drawing a crowd of 230 participants. The initiative aimed to raise funds in support of the Cancer Council.
The event took place in the conference hall at the District’s headquarters, in the presence of Bishop Elpidios of Perth and the Consul of Greece in Perth, Eleni Georgopoulou.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the fundraiser collected $12,000, bringing the total raised over the past two decades to just over $200,000.
Proceeds from previous years have supported significant cancer research initiatives, including a major study on bone marrow cancer treatment at the University of Western Australia, led by Dr. Belinda Guo.
Bishop Elpidios conveyed the paternal blessings of Archbishop Makarios of Australia to all attendees. He also commended the tireless dedication of the organizing committee and volunteers, emphasizing that “nearly every family, at some point, feels the emotional weight of a cancer diagnosis.”
The event concluded with resounding success, uniting the faithful in a spirit of solidarity, compassion, and generosity.
