The Parish of Saint Nektarios in the Holy Diocese of Perth welcomed parishioners, clergy, distinguished guests and friends on Sunday, 9 August, for its August Fundraiser, held in support of the continuing development of the parish and, in particular, the installation of a new sound system for the church.
The day commenced with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, officiated by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth, and was followed by a fellowship luncheon held at the neighbouring St Basil’s Conference Centre.
Among those in attendance were Mrs Eleni Georgopoulou, Consul of Greece in Perth, accompanied by her husband, Mr Kyriakos Tsoulis; Mr Theo Gakelos, Board Member of St Basil’s Aged Care WA; members of the clergy; parish representatives; and members of the wider community.
During the luncheon, the parish also remembered with affection the late Joseph Wentzel, a dedicated member of the Parish Committee who had generously offered his time and service to Saint Nektarios. Those present observed a minute of silence in his memory.
A particular focus of the fundraiser was the parish’s plan to install a modern sound system within the church. The proposed upgrade will help ensure that the Divine Services, Scripture readings, chanting, sermons and spiritual talks can be heard clearly throughout the church, further enriching the worship and spiritual life of the parish community.
Special thanks were extended to the Greek Seniors Group, the ladies of the Philoptochos, the Parish Committee, donors, raffle supporters and the many volunteers who generously prepared the food, arranged the hall, served guests and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success of the occasion.
Mr Christo Athanasiou and the Χορωδία Αηδόνια also contributed to the warmth of the gathering through their beautiful singing, adding a joyful cultural dimension to the afternoon.
The gathering reflected the enduring spirit of the Parish of Saint Nektarios: a community in which faith, fellowship and service come together. It was also an occasion of gratitude—gratitude for those who have served the parish in the past, for those who continue to support its mission today, and for the generations who will inherit and carry forward its life and ministry in the years to come.
