In response to what they describe as “yet another violent assault” on the Christian town of Taybeh in the West Bank, the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem have issued a powerful statement condemning the attack and warning of its broader implications.
Referring to the incident as “an unambiguous act of intimidation directed at a peaceful and faithful community rooted in the land of Christ,” the church leaders connect it to a growing and “alarming pattern of settler violence” targeting homes, sacred spaces, and daily life in Palestinian communities.
The statement also criticizes the way the attack has been publicly addressed, lamenting that “official Israeli police statements reduced the matter solely to property damage,” thereby “omitting the broader context of systematic intimidation and abuse.” The Patriarchs further decry a “climate of impunity” that they say threatens not only Christian communities but “the moral and legal foundations that uphold peace and justice for all.”
Calling for immediate action, the church leaders demand that the Israeli government “hold accountable those responsible,” ensure the protection of vulnerable communities, and “uphold its obligations under international law.” The statement concludes with a note of thanks to international partners and a call for continued solidarity, prayer, and vigilance “for peace rooted in justice.”
