The law “On Family Values and Protection of Minors,” adopted by the Georgian parliament, is a positive step forward, as reported by 1tv.ge citing the press release by the Public Relations Service of the Patriarchate of Georgia.
The statement emphasizes that the protection of family values has become a significant challenge in Georgia today, as in many countries around the world.
“Over the years, both the Patriarchate of Georgia and the majority of the population have taken a firm stand on this issue, each striving to protect family values amid growing challenges.
The Church of Georgia has consistently defended and continues to defend our youth from ideologies that undermine traditional family structures.
A few years ago, textbooks for students and teachers sparked sharp and just criticism from the Patriarchate of Georgia, as certain topics within those textbooks openly promoted the erosion of family values. It took extensive and active efforts to remove passages containing LGBTQI propaganda from these educational resources, as textbooks must align with our fundamental values.
Furthermore, the spread of LGBTQI propaganda has often caused significant social divisions and has even been used as a tool by those seeking to deepen polarization within society.
In response to these trends, the law “On Family Values and Protection of Minors,” adopted by the current government of Georgia, is seen as a positive step forward.
We hope this law will yield fruitful results for the well-being of our society, as it represents a crucial and decisive step towards protecting the traditional values that define the identity of the Georgian nation,” the statement concluded.
The law “On Family Values and Protection of Minors,” which was not signed by President Salome Zurabishvili, was signed yesterday by the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili.
