Patriarchate of Antioch issues call for unity and peace in Syria

Under the guiding words, “God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved,” the Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East for the Greek Orthodox Church issued a heartfelt statement addressing the current crossroads facing Syria. The nation, revered as the cradle of divine messages and home to God’s messengers and prophets, stands poised for a new chapter in its history, with its people aspiring to a future that reflects Syria’s rich identity as a land of civilization and cultural heritage.

Highlighting the critical nature of this period, the Patriarchate emphasized the need for wisdom, solidarity, and collective action. It called for unwavering trust in God’s mercy and guidance, urging all Syrians to remain steadfast in their love for their homeland and committed to safeguarding the dignity of their fellow citizens.

“As a Church deeply rooted in this great East,” the statement affirmed, “we continue our mission of serving humanity and fostering peace and harmony in a nation governed by the rule of law and democratic institutions.”

The Patriarchate appealed to all faithful and Syrian citizens, irrespective of ethnic, political, or religious affiliations, to:

  • Promote unity.
  • Protect public and private property.
  • Foster security in their communities.
  • Exercise self-restraint in the face of provocations.
  • Approach challenges with wisdom and prudence.

It further urged all parties responsible for the care of Syria to work towards curbing violations and ensuring the dignity of every citizen, stressing that such efforts are essential for paving the way to a brighter future.

As the nation prepares to celebrate the birth of Christ, the Patriarchate lifted its prayers for peace to reign in Syria, often referred to as the Land of Peace. In their closing words, the Church extended a call for unity and harmony, invoking blessings upon the people of Syria during this sacred season.

The statement concluded with a message of hope and faith: “Together, we can move forward toward a tomorrow that reflects the divine will for peace, justice, and prosperity in this cherished land.”
