In the wake of the tragic and heinous attack on St. Elias Church in Dweilaa, Damascus, which claimed the lives of dozens of innocent victims, the Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East for the Greek Orthodox Church issued an official statement reaffirming the steadfastness of its faithful and the Church’s unwavering commitment to preserving their ancestral faith.
The announcement underlined that liturgical services at St. Elias Church resumed immediately after the attack, as a testimony to the strength and resilience of the Antiochian Orthodox community in the face of terror and loss.
To ensure the continuation of worship, the Patriarchate has now announced the launch of full restoration works on St. Elias Church, set to begin next week. During the renovation period, services will be held in the adjacent church hall, allowing the community to continue gathering in prayer.
“We remain anchored in hope,” the statement reads. “We reaffirm our commitment to our faith and reject all fear and intimidation. We ask the Lord our God to guide the vessel of our salvation through the storms of this world, blessed be He unto the ages.”
