The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East issued a statement from Damascus on January 31, 2026, announcing a change regarding the leadership of its Vicariate in Sweden and the Scandinavian countries.
According to the statement, the Reverend Archimandrite Antonios Beitar ceased to serve as Patriarchal Representative in the Vicariate of Sweden and Scandinavia as of January 23, 2026. He will continue his priestly ministry within the Archdiocese of Tripoli, Koura, and their Dependencies.
The Patriarchate further clarified that, during this interim period, the administrative affairs of the Vicariate will be handled directly by the Patriarchal See.
The announcement marks a temporary adjustment in the governance of the Vicariate, pending further developments.
