Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria visited the elders of the Greek Community of Alexandria on New Year’s Day.
The Head of the Orthodox Church in Africa visited the twenty Greek elderly people, some of them were bedridden, who live in the nursing home of the Greek Community of Alexandria.
“We will always love the elderly people from Greek diaspora because they give us their wish and this is a great legacy for us. It gives us the strength to go on,” said Patriarch Theodore.
The Patriarch was accompanied by the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Athanasios Kotsionis. They visited the Greek Nursing Home of Alexandria and sat at the table together with the elders on New Year’s Day.
On New Year’s Eve, the Patriarch of Alexandria blessed and cut the vasilopita in the presence of the members of the Greek Community in Alexandria and many Arabic-speaking believers.
“Have patience, patience, patience, because we will need it because the years to come are difficult,” said the Patriarch.
“I went to my beloved homeland, Greece, to help in their efforts to turn the Mediterranean into a sea of peace.
I want to thank Greece, our homeland, for listening to the pain of my soul and every time I knock on the door of our homeland, I know it is always open,” he said.
