The recent news of the serious injury of a student in Novi Sad, adding to a series of violent incidents in Serbia, has caused sorrow and concern among the public.
Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia, in his statement, expressed his deep disappointment at these events and emphasized the need for a collective response against violence. He then called on society and the authorities to take responsibility to return to fundamental human and Christian values and to work for the restoration of peace and love.
Find below the message of Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia:
“I am shocked by the news that the third student has been seriously injured, this time in the already wounded Novi Sad. I expect that those responsible for this and all other crimes will be punished according to the law.
As always, I remind you that violence has never brought anything good to anyone. Violence is contrary to all Christian principles and as such is absolutely unacceptable, especially towards our students.
Each of us must do what we can to immediately stop the hatred and conflict. The greatest responsibility lies with those in positions of power.
I call on everyone to return to basic human and Christian values. I pray to God to restore reason, peace and love, which are so much needed at this difficult moment”.
Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia
