Today Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia met with the family Geraschenko, which fled from Ukraine before the war, in the Parish house of Saint Sava church on Vračar.
Alexander and Maria, whose fourth child was born just before leaving for exile, have temporarily settled with their godparents – the Nedeljković family. They pointed out that through Patriarch Porfirije they express gratitude to the Serbian people for the hospitality and shelter they have been offered. Patriarch Porfirije emphasized that “our people know very well how great is the sorrow caused by war, and especially what is the scope of suffering from being a refugee, as well as that the Church will do everything in its power to help Ukrainian refugees, but also to provide aid to the war-endangered area”.
“The most important thing is for the war to stop as soon as possible, we pray for that. We pray that your wonderful family returns to their house, that the children feel the warmth of their parents’ home, said Patriarch Porfirije and called on again the faithful people to offer all available help to the Ukrainian refugees, regardless of whether they are Orthodox, Catholics or atheists, which church they go to or how they pray to God. That is what Christ expects from us, to offer help to the needy”, Patriarch Porfirije pointed out.
Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, Dean of the church of Saint Sava, and Bishop Justin of Hvosno, coordinator of charitable and missionary activities of the Archdiocese of Belgrade–Karlovci, also participated in the conversation.
