Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia received Andon Sapundžija, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Ukraine, on December 3, 2024, at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade.
During the meeting, Patriarch Porfirije conveyed his heartfelt wishes for Ambassador Sapundžija’s success in his new, highly challenging role, particularly given the complexities of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Patriarch Porfirije also offered prayers for the cessation of hostilities and the restoration of peace in the region.
Ambassador Sapundžija provided the Patriarch with an update on the current state of Serbia’s diplomatic mission in Kyiv, which he is scheduled to lead by the end of the year under a decree from the President of Serbia.
The meeting was attended by Archpriest Đorđe Stojisavljević, Chief of the Patriarch’s Office, and Mrs. Olivera Jovanović, Editor-in-Chief of Orthodoxy, the official publication of the Serbian Patriarchate.
