Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia received the First Vice President of the Government of Serbia and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development, Branko Ruzic, at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade, on March 31, 2021.
In a cordial conversation, the Patriarch emphasized the importance of good cooperation between the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, especially in order to improve the quality of religious education and the position of religious teachers.
The Patriarch especially emphasized that the Church built the foundations of Serbian public education, which developed for centuries under the arches of monasteries, seminaries and other church-educational institutes, crowned with the founding of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, one of the founders of the University of Belgrade.
Minister Ruzic congratulated warmly the Patriarch on his election and enthronement as head of the Serbian Orthodox Church and stressed that cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and the Serbian Orthodox Church is of great importance for preserving the identity, tradition and historical values inherited by the Serbian people.
The meeting was attended by Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, State Secretary Marijana Dukic Mijatovic, Advisor for Religious Affairs Mileta Radojevic, and Head of the Office of the Serbian Patriarch Deacon Aleksandar Prascevic.
