On January 30, 2025, Serbian Patriarch Porfirije held a meeting with Aviv Bar Ilan, the Israeli Ambassador to Serbia, at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade.
During the meeting, Patriarch Porfirije welcomed Ambassador Bar Ilan and wished her a successful mandate in Serbia, where she has been serving since the end of last year. He highlighted the long-standing fraternal ties between the Serbian and Jewish peoples, emphasizing their mutual respect and understanding. The Patriarch also underscored the excellent relations between the Serbian Orthodox Church and Jewish communities in the region.
Reiterating the importance of peace, Patriarch Porfirije expressed his prayers for stability in the Middle East and other conflict-affected regions worldwide.
Ambassador Bar Ilan thanked the Patriarch for the warm welcome and meaningful discussion, agreeing on the necessity of daily prayers for peace and the freedom of all people.
Also present at the meeting were Protoiereus Đorđe Stojisavljević, Head of the Office of the Serbian Patriarch; Alexandra Ben Ari, Deputy Ambassador of Israel to Serbia; and Olivera Jovanović, Editor-in-Chief of Pravoslavlje, the official publication of the Serbian Patriarchate.
