Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia presided over the Divine Liturgy with the concelebration of Bishop Nikanor of Banat, at the Cathedral church in Vrsac, on May 6, 2021, on the feast day of Holy Great-martyr George.
At the end of the Holy Liturgy, Bishop Nikanor greeted the Patriarch of Serbia and presented him with the icon of Saint Teodor of Vrsac. Patriarch Porfirije thanked Bishop Nikanor and said in his sermon: “We need to build unity and be one in faith in Christ. Faith in the Resurrection of Christ, in the victory over death, over injustice, and in our victory over transience, has shaped our people from the earliest times. Orthodox Serbs lived with such faith. This shows that our people drew the meaning of their existence and strength in glorifying God, rejoiced in what they are to the same extent and when temptations arise in the areas where they live and knew that he was not alone, that God was with him and the Cross of Christ with him.”
“Faith in the Resurrection is the foundation and goal of our existence. Only when we know Christ will we have the best possible measure by which we will recognize what is black and what is white, what is evil and what is good. The gospel of Christ is simple, the fishermen preached it, it is close to every heart and everyone can understand it. Being a member of the Church is a call and a call to feel greater responsibility for others in our souls. Let’s build unity! Let us not allow external things to be something that will essentially divide us. Let us have different views, so let it be on a political basis, let it be on a social basis to look at some things differently, but in essence, by faith in Christ to be one!”, Patriarch Porfirije said.
