Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia presided over the Divine Liturgy on June 22, 2025, the second Sunday after Pentecost, at the Church of Saint Sava in Vračar.
In his sermon, the Patriarch emphasized the divine imprint within each of us—the conscience woven into the fabric of our being, which serves as the foundation of our lives. He noted that even when we are unaware, unwilling to live by God’s law, or attempt to ignore it, this conscience remains to remind us that life without God’s guidance leads to chaos.
Patriarch Porfirije explained that each person must evaluate and direct themselves toward the right path, guided by the commandments of God. He stressed that righteousness is not simply in hearing God’s word, but in actively living by it. Quoting Saint Paul, the Apostle to the Nations, he said, “It is not the one who merely listens to the word of God who is righteous, but the one who, hearing it, strives to keep God’s law as their life.”
The Patriarch concluded by urging that God’s law and word be the ultimate standard by which we assess all things and all people, beginning with ourselves.
