On Great and Holy Thursday, April 9, 2026, Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Sava in Vračar.
Following the reading of the Holy Gospel, the Patriarch delivered a homily, emphasizing:
“This week, from Monday to Sunday, is dedicated to specific events which are historical realities, yet also bear an essential and inseparable connection to our lives, giving meaning to our existence.”
Referring to Great Thursday, he noted:
“We recall that on this day the Lord established the Eucharist, that is, the Divine Liturgy, as communion through bread and wine, which are the Body and Blood of Christ… He established the Liturgy, showing that it is the place where we encounter the Lord, where we confess Him, and where we recognize Him.”
Concluding his homily, Patriarch Porfirije said:
“May the Lord grant us peace, grant us the repentance of the Holy Apostle Peter… so that we may worthily and reverently celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord. May prayer and Holy Communion be for our health and salvation.”
Clergy of the Church of Saint Sava, including Archpriests, Priests, and Deacons, concelebrated with the Primate.
