On November 10, 2024, Patriarch Profirije of Serbia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Saint Sava’s Church in Vračar, Belgrade. The service was translated into sign language for hearing-impaired members of the City Organization of the Deaf in Belgrade.
In his homily, Patriarch Profirije spoke on the transformative power of love and its connection to eternal life: “Love, as the essence of who we are and what the world is, reflects our innate drive for creativity, for growth, and for improving our relationships with others.
This love shows a deep yearning within us—not for a life confined by time and space, but one that transcends these limits. We carry within us a desire for eternity, which is found in the embrace of those we truly love, those who bring purpose to our lives.”
The Patriarch emphasized that Christ is the ultimate source of this meaning, embodying love itself. “Christ is the source of life, the very foundation of love. Only when our lives are connected to Him do we experience the true force of life—not merely as existence but as a profound reality of love and communion. Through Christ, we embrace each other and the world in a divine unity, existing with Him and in Him.”
He highlighted the central role of faith, describing it as a bond with Christ that must be active and loving, rooted in complete trust in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
The Patriarch was joined by vicar bishops Stefan of Remesia, Petar of Toplice, Nikon of Jenopole, and Tikhon of Moravia, along with clergy, deacons, and a large congregation of faithful who participated in prayerful unity.
