Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia celebrated the Divine Liturgy on 11 January 2026 at the Church of the Holy Archangel Gabriel in Kamendol, near Grocka, addressing the faithful gathered in prayer.
In his homily, the Patriarch expressed his joy at visiting the local community for the first time, noting that even though winter has covered the region with snow, its beauty remains undiminished. He voiced the hope that, God willing, future visits would follow in every season, offering further opportunities to glorify God through the beauty of creation.
Patriarch Porfirije emphasized that gathering in the house of God is essential for Christian life, underlining that Orthodox identity is not limited to baptism alone. He stressed the importance of regular participation in the Holy Liturgy, Holy Communion, fasting, prayer, and the effort to incorporate the Lord’s commandments into everyday life. Faith, he noted, is the true foundation of human existence, without which genuine inner peace and joy are difficult to attain.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarch consecrated the foundations of the new parish hall, which will serve as a center for fellowship, spiritual growth, and pastoral care for the faithful of Kamendol and the surrounding area.
Concelebrating with the Patriarch were Bishop Tikhon of Moravica, Hieromonk Andrei, Priest Dejan Todorović, Protopresbyter Milomir Jelić, Protodeacons Dragan Radić and Radomir Vrućinić, and Deacon Vasilije Perić.
