Following Serbia’s first-place finish and gold medal victory at the European Water Polo Championship in Belgrade, Patriarch Porfirije, Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, sent a congratulatory message this evening to head coach Uroš Stevanović and the Serbian national team.
In his message, Patriarch Porfirije praised both the athletic achievement and the sportsmanship of the players, expressing his joy together with the entire Serbian people for their success and knightly conduct in the competition.
“Dear friends, dear brothers,” the Patriarch wrote, “together with all our people, I congratulate you and rejoice in your feat, in your sporting and chivalrous behavior, and in the title of European champions that you have won.”
Concluding his message, Patriarch Porfirije extended an invitation to the team to give thanks for their achievement in a spirit of faith and gratitude. “I invite you to celebrate this European gold together once again in the Temple of Saint Sava, and to offer thanksgiving to the Lord, the Giver of all good things, for this great success and blessing,” he stated.
