On the second day of his visit to the God-saved Diocese of Canada, October 5, 2024, Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Montreal, where the Serbian community has gathered since 1954.
This proud and courageous Orthodox Serbian community, who carry the Serbian name with dignity in the distant and blessed land of Canada, welcomed their Patriarch with open joy and pure love—much like the love children have for their Father. And the Father, ever willing to visit, embrace, and comfort each of his children, even in the most remote corners of the world, reciprocated with Gospel teachings and his patriarchal blessing.
“For a long time, brothers and sisters—and this is truly a gift from God—I have not felt such warmth and affection as I do under the arches of this temple, which is not just a piece of the Kingdom of Heaven, but also a piece of our Motherland. It is a gift from God, and a testament to your love,” said Patriarch Porfirije in his touching sermon.
During the celebratory Divine Liturgy, Patriarch Porfirije was co-served by Metropolitan Mitrofan of Canada, Archbishop Irinej of Ottawa and Canada from the American Orthodox Church, Reverend Bishops John Cassian of Canada from the Romanian Orthodox Church, Nikon of Jenopol, Vicar of the Serbian Patriarch, and numerous clergy and monks from various local Orthodox Churches.
