On Friday, November 15, 2024, Patriarch Daniel of Romania received Mr. Gudsi Osmanov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Bucharest, during an introductory visit at the Patriarchal Residence.
At the beginning of the meeting, Patriarch Daniel extended a warm welcome to the ambassador and commended Patriarch’s extensive diplomatic and academic experience.
In turn, Ambassador Osmanov expressed his gratitude for the reception and highlighted the Orthodox Church’s significant role in contemporary Romanian society.
He also praised the spiritual and cultural wealth of the Romanian people, noting that their piety and faith have ensured the nation’s unity and continuity despite the challenges posed by its historical position at the crossroads of three great empires: the Ottoman, Habsburg, and Russian Empires.
Patriarch Daniel spoke about the good friendship and cooperation between Romania and Azerbaijan and emphasized the importance of strengthening these relations across various fields.
Furthermore, the Patriarch underscored the value of organizing pilgrimages for Romanian Orthodox believers to visit sites of significant religious, historical, and cultural importance in Azerbaijan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Patriarch wished the ambassador great success as he begins his diplomatic mission in Romania.
