Patriarch Daniel expressed his grief over the losses suffered by Greece and Turkey after a powerful earthquake shook the neighbouring countries on Friday. The Patriarch of Romania sent a message of solidarity to both Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens.

We learned with deep sorrow about the powerful earthquake that struck near the coast of Izmir province on October 30, 2020, causing the death of over 20 persons and injuring over 800.
In these moments of trial, we offer prayers to the crucified and risen Christ to rest the souls of the dead, to give speedy recovery to the wounded and help to all who have been affected by the earthquake.
We express our compassion and solidarity with those affected and pray to God to protect the entire world from earthquakes and other calamities.

Patriarch Daniel also sent a message of solidarity with the Greek Orthodox Church and the Greek people, following the strong earthquake that shook the island of Samos on Friday, Oct. 30.

We learned with great sadness about the consequences of the strong earthquake that occurred north of the island of Samos and that affected the populations of neighbouring countries of Greece and Turkey.
In these difficult times, on behalf of the clergy and the faithful of the Romanian Orthodox Church, we send our condolences to all the bereaved families and pray to the Most Holy Trinity to give rest to the souls of those who lost their lives. We also pray for the recovery of the wounded and the help of all those who have been affected by this earthquake.
We express our solidarity with the Greek Orthodox Church and the Greek people. At the same time, we pray to God to keep the whole world safe from earthquakes and other calamities.
