Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church sent a congratulatory message on Thursday to Pope Leo XIV, newly elected as the 267th Bishop of Rome and head of the Roman Catholic Church.
In his message, the Romanian Patriarch expressed warm congratulations and highlighted the vital importance of unity among Christians in today’s world. “In a world facing multiple spiritual, economic, and social crises, the united voice of Christians is more necessary than ever to offer a message of hope, solidarity, and love,” Patriarch Daniel wrote.
The message, addressed directly to the Vatican, opened with the traditional Orthodox Easter greeting “Christ is Risen!” and emphasized shared values and a desire for continued cooperation between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches.
“We are fully confident that Your Holiness will continue to promote the spirit of dialogue, peace, and cooperation between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church,” the Patriarch stated.
He also expressed his hope that Pope Leo XIV would continue to support Romanian Orthodox believers living in Western Europe, especially in Italy, following the compassionate example set by Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.
