Patriarch Daniel of Romania officiated a Trisagion service on Sunday in memory of Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia at the Chapel of Saint George within the Patriarchal Residence.
During the service, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Primate of the Georgian Orthodox Church, whose funeral took place the same day in Tbilisi.
In a message issued on this occasion, Patriarch Daniel emphasized the wisdom with which Patriarch Ilia II shepherded the Georgian people, noting that his ministry unfolded “during a period marked by profound transformations and trials.”
Patriarch Ilia II fell asleep in the Lord on March 17, leaving behind a significant spiritual legacy both in Georgia and across the Orthodox world.
