On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, Patriarch Daniel of Romania welcomed Kathleen Kavalec, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Romania, on a presentation visit at the patriarchal residence.
Patriarch Daniel congratulated the incoming United States ambassador on starting her diplomatic assignment and wished her success in all of her endeavors.
Next, the Patriarch of Romania addressed the phenomenon of migration, which, in addition to the possibility of real opportunities for achievement on a personal level, in the case of Romania, generates challenges for which the Romanian Orthodox Church tries to find the most appropriate pastoral solutions to preserve and promote Romanian identity values, especially regarding young people from these communities.
The ambassador expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and the outstanding manner in which the Romanian Orthodox Church provided special assistance to the large number of refugees fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.
The ambassador also thanked the Romanian Patriarchate for its strong participation in the fight against human trafficking, which concerns Romania at present.
In this context, the Patriarch of Romania emphasized that the Romanian Orthodox Church conducts several initiatives and programs for vulnerable individuals (refugees, victims of human trafficking, victims of domestic violence, and others).
In addition, Patriarch Daniel remarked that, given the predominantly religious nature of the Romanian people, it is essential that any law with a significant spiritual impact on Romanian society, particularly regarding social morality and education in schools in our country, be discussed beforehand with the representatives of the recognized religious denominations in Romania, so that there may be a productive dialogue and cooperation at the national level.
