On November 4, 2024, during the celebration of the miraculous Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow spoke about the enduring bonds and fraternal relationship between the Russian and Serbian peoples, “who share common values and cultural traditions.”
Patriarch Kirill celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Dormition of the Theotokos in the Moscow Kremlin. The service was attended by Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vulin, alongside high-ranking Serbian officials, including the Serbian Ambassador to Russia, Momčilo Babić, and Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister, Ivan Mirković.
Following the Liturgy, a prayer service was held before the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, which was rediscovered last year, adding to the day’s spiritual significance.
In a subsequent meeting at the patriarchal office, Mr. Vulin conveyed heartfelt greetings from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, expressing gratitude for Patriarch Kirill’s contributions to Russia’s prosperity and the ongoing strengthening of Russian-Serbian friendship.
Patriarch Kirill warmly welcomed the Serbian delegation, emphasizing the close bond between the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Churches. “The unity of the Serbian and Russian Orthodox Churches plays a crucial role in our shared commitment to truth,” he said.
“Through their strong Orthodox faith, the Serbian and Russian peoples have consistently chosen the side of truth and freedom throughout history. Despite hardships, they have remained unconquered and today continue to resist the forces that reject faith in God, belief in humanity, and devotion to family values,” he added.
As a gesture of appreciation and friendship, Patriarch Kirill presented Deputy Prime Minister Vulin with patriarchal medals, honoring Serbia’s steadfast support and commitment to preserving the shared values of both nations.
