On the evening of June 5, 2026, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow arrived in Kaliningrad for a pastoral visit.
Following his election to the Patriarchal Throne, Patriarch Kirill continued to serve as the ruling hierarch of the Kaliningrad Diocese. In 2016, the Kaliningrad Metropolis was established within the Kaliningrad region. At that time, the Holy Synod approved the request of local faithful that the Patriarch retain oversight of the Metropolis as its head.
Accompanying the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church on the visit are Metropolitan Grigory of Voskresensk, Bishop Alexy of Ramenskoye, Patriarch Kirill’s personal secretary; Archpriest Andrey Bondarenko, head of the Patriarchal Protocol Service; and Nikolai Derzhavin, Deputy Head of the Press Service of the Patriarch of Moscow.
At Khrabrovo Airport in Kaliningrad, Patriarch Kirill was welcomed by Metropolitan Seraphim of Baltysk and Svetlogorsk, Patriarchal Vicar of the Kaliningrad Metropolis; Bishop Nikolai of Chernyakhovsk and Slavsk; Deputy Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Natalya Shimchenok; and Senator Andrey Yaroshuk, former Mayor of Kaliningrad.
During his visit, Patriarch Kirill is scheduled to meet with the clergy of the Kaliningrad Metropolis, celebrate services at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Kaliningrad, and hold meetings with regional authorities.
