Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem will pay an official visit to Athens in the coming days, accompanied by an official delegation of members of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre and associates of the Patriarchate.
During his stay in the Greek capital, the Patriarch will be received by Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece. The two Primates are expected to hold a fraternal meeting and exchange views on matters of ecclesiastical and pastoral interest.
Patriarch Theophilos will also meet with the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, and the Minister of Culture.
The discussions are expected to focus on the ministry of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in the Holy Land, the protection of the Holy Shrines, support for the region’s Christian communities, as well as issues of cultural, educational, and spiritual cooperation between the Patriarchate and the Hellenic Republic.
The visit takes place within the framework of the longstanding close ties between the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Church of Greece, and the Greek State. It aims to further strengthen their cooperation for the benefit of the Holy Shrines, the Christian presence in the Middle East, and the common witness of Orthodoxy in the contemporary world.
