The Patriarchate of Jerusalem has issued a statement expressing its full support for the Sinaitic Brotherhood, affirming the rights of the Fathers of the Holy Monastery of Sinai.
“The Patriarchate of Jerusalem fully supports the Sinaitic Brotherhood, recognizing the rights of the Fathers of the Holy Monastery, as these have been enshrined in its fundamental regulations and safeguarded throughout its centuries-old monastic tradition,” the announcement said.
The Patriarchate emphasized that this support “is expressed within the framework of the spiritual and canonical jurisdiction exercised by the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.”
It further called for cooperation among all parties, including the Hellenic state, “to safeguard the canonical order and to restore peace and unity within the Holy Monastery.”
This position contrasts with recent decisions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the Holy Synod, where support had been expressed for Archbishop Damianos, adding another point of tension in the relations between Jerusalem and the Phanar.
