According to announcement of Patriarchate of Georgia, Archimandrite Ilya (Toloraia), a cleric of the Holy Trinity Patriarchal Monastery (Samtavro Lavra), has been suspended from priestly duties following defamatory and disrespectful statements made against a bishop and other hierarchs of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
According to the Patriarchate of Georgia, the decision was made based on the recommendation of the diocesan commission and approved by Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.
The decree states that Archimandrite Ilya is “prohibited from performing any priestly functions until he demonstrates sincere repentance.”
Patriarch Ilia II signed the decision personally, emphasizing that repentance and restoration of respect for the Church hierarchy are necessary for any possible reinstatement.
