Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria received the Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in the city of Chicago, Svetoslav Stankov, in his office in the Holy Metropolis of Sofia.
The meeting was also attended by Bishop Pahomios of Vranitsa, First Vicar of the Metropolitan of Sofia. The Bulgarian Patriarch of Bulgaria encouraged the Bulgarian diplomatic mission in Chicago in its beneficial activities for the people, emphasizing its importance for the numerous Bulgarian diaspora.
Mr. Stankov, in turn, congratulated the Patriarch on his election and wished him health, wisdom, and strength in his responsible ministry.
The Consul General in Chicago described the state of the Bulgarian community, noting that since the beginning of the 20th century, through special legislative acts of the American government, Bulgarian churches have been recognized as part of America’s cultural and historical heritage. At the end of the meeting, the Patriarch presented Mr. Stankov with an icon for the protection and safeguarding of the Bulgarian community in Chicago.
